As we’re approaching April, we’re all worried about the energy price increase affecting our living costs. Many of us are already making simple decisions like cancelling necessities such as Amazon prime or Netflix. We would like to share with you our top energy saving tips that are few simple changes which can make a big difference to your overall energy use.
Laundry
We’re sure you know this already, but lower washing temperatures will use less electricity. But did you know that you can also save your energy bills when popping a wash on during non-peak hours? And this doesn’t apply to washing machine only, it applies to everything you use. This is because companies offer cheaper prices during non-peak period which is between 10pm and 8am. However, each company is different so please contact your energy supplier to find out what hours they are.
Declutter
This might sound irrelevant but believe it or not, the more stuff you have around your home, more energy will need to be used. Keep your radiators dust-free and clear to allow heating to spread and regulate your home temperature. You can also save hundreds if you insulate your home properly especially your loft, so decluttering your loft will help with insulation!
Hoovering
Your hoover can also help you save energy costs, and no – we won’t tell you to buy a new energy-efficient one, but simply, we will tell you to empty your dust collector before and after each use. Why? As your hoover gets full, it loses suction power which means you will need to go over your carpet over and over again. Empty dust collection will have a full suction power. We also recommend washing your filter as often as possible so it doesn’t affect power usage.
Cleaning
A clean home also helps, for example a clean oven door will help you stop having to open it to check on your food, which allows heat to escape. So deep clean your oven door to help minimise unnecessary heat loss. Use a bucket or water in the sink when cleaning instead of turning tap on and off. Dust keeps electronics and motors from running at top efficiency. Be sure to dust off your computer, office equipment, electronics, light bulbs, and even refrigerator coils.
Other energy saving tips

· Switch off unnecessary plugs to reduce standing charges
· Turn down your thermostat by one degree
· Switch off heating when not at home
